Back on New Year’s Day, I was completely optimistic about 2016. I was. It was going to be amazing for me, my family, TRS, my volunteer efforts. 2016 was going to be A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
Flash forward to July. A week ago, covers pulled up over my head. I really wanted that ice cream in the freezer but I wasn’t willing to come out of the perceived safety of my bed to risk it. How did this all go terribly wrong?
Let’s put aside the fact that so many celebrities I love have died this year. David Bowie? Alan Rickman? Prince? Let’s also set aside the fact that the presidential race is going full gallop… no I can’t even watch all that.
Let’s see. There’s family illness. Family feud. Teenagers learning to drive (they don’t make a hair color strong enough to color that gray!) Teenagers dating. Looking at colleges. PSAT? Already? Car repairs, that sink that’s been dripping since 2015, trying to launch sister sites to TRS, those new ideas you never seem to have time to incorporate… I’ve got more.
How the hell do you make it through all this? Will I live to see 2017???
Okay, okay. Obviously I got out from under those covers at some point, right? Because at some point during my attempt to hide from my life, and it was right up there with that little girl from The Conjuring 2, I realized what I had to do.
I had to make a decision. Simple as that.
A decision? Yes.
All I needed to do was decide that I could handle it. All of it.
Here’s the secret: you don’t know how. You don’t even need to worry about it. Once you decide that you’re going to do it, the how will show up. You don’t know how you’re going to do it, you just know you’re going to do it.
Now, take a minute and process that. I know to some of you it will sound a little out there. But it works. They key is to stop worrying. Focus on what you want to accomplish. Picture it in your mind. Maybe you see yourself running a 25k with a slim, fit figure. Maybe you see yourself in that bigger house you always wanted on the coast. Maybe you see yourself at a book signing in Manhattan and there is a line of anxious readers out the door and down the sidewalk waiting to see you.
Right. Like that will happen.
Why can’t it happen? Give this a try. Decide what you want, picture it. Give it some energy in your thoughts every single day! Everything around you started out just like this. The planes you travel on from one part of the world to another started as someone’s idea. The car you drive everyday was once someone’s dream. That smart phone you can’t live without? Maybe that was someone fed up with being tied to a computer or laptop all day.
You have nothing to lose!
Decide what you want.
Decide you can have it.
Decide you deserve it.
Then take action. Think about the choices you make. Will this get me closer to my vision?
And be positive. You can’t manifest great things in your life if you’re worried and negative all the time. Feel good. Do things that make you happy.
In this regard, do you know just how lucky I am to have TRS? Instead of worrying about all the things I could sit here and dwell on, I do what makes me happy when I have a moment. What’s that? Read! And all I have to do is go to the site to see all the good books I need to catch up on.
My recommendations, recent reads:
Mastering the Beast by Tina Donahue (part of the amazing Taming the Beast series)
Bringer of Chaos by Kayelle Allen
The Passage series by Justin Cronin (literally read this in a week)
One of the Guys by Delaney Diamond
Navy Seal Seduction by Bonnie Vanak
Entwined by Jessica Coulter Smith
Hector and Steele by A.C. Katt
That’s just a few! I’ve got more and I’ll be sending those titles too you!
Stop fretting. Start dreaming. Turn 2016 into the year that was completely fabulous!
