When hapless witch Eleri attempts a banishing spell she accidentally kills the son of high ranking demon Vine. Forced to flee her island home Eleri meets up with sexy bodyguard Wolfe and realizes that he is the soul mate of her dreams. He wants her body, but she intends taking his heart.
Eleri glanced out at the darkening sky; red streaks flamed across it, and the crash of waves rolling in on the beach broke through the night air. Closing the window, Eleri decided to add a love spell chant to her magic, make it more potent. She stood beside the bed and began.
Star of love, burn so bright
“You haven’t cast a circle,” reminded Robbie.
Shit. “Okay, Mr. Know-It-All, I was just testing you okay?”
“Yeah, I believe that too.”
She rummaged in her book, seeking the incantation to cast the circle, and read from it.
By the earth that is her body
By the air that is her breath
By the fire of her spirit
By the waters of her womb
As above, so below.
The circle is made whole
She shot Robbie a glare. “Satisfied? Now can I get on with my chant?”
Star of love, burn so bright
“No, you haven’t said it three times, it’s a magical number and represents creativity,” said Robbie, his whiskers twitched.
“Frigging hell, what is it with you?” she yelled, pushing her hair back, her temper exploding.
“I’m your familiar, unfortunately, and I’m trying to educate you.” Robbie emptied his pouch on the duvet, a mound of nuts and sunflower seeds dropped to the cover.
“Do you mind not throwing up on my bed?” spat Eleri.
“I’m emptying my larder,” he explained.
“Yeah whatever, I’ve heard it called many a different name. So, you can vomit somewhere else.”
Robbie drew his lips back, a pair of sharp teeth glinted. “It’s where I store my food; you really are thick, aren’t you.”
Eleri spun around to him. “Well, excuse me, when food erupts from a mouth, I usually connect it with throwing up?”
“Then I suggest you read up on hamsters?”
“Piss off, you rodent, but might I suggest you read up on my house rules? And number one is no puking over my duvet!” she shrieked. “Now shut the hell up and let me get on with this?”
“Actually, I’m scientifically known as Mesocricetur Auratus.”
Eleri launched herself across the bed, and her two fingers gripped his throat. “I don’t give a fuck what your posh name is; you’re a condescending irritating rodent! Got it!” She released him and pushed her hair back, her small chest rose with a rabid fury.
“Three times?” reminded Robbie.
Her reply was a single finger salute. Eleri repeated the casting and then began her chant.
Aid me in my spell tonight
Unite my true love to me
As I will it, so note it be
A wicked smile curled her lips; she would be looking forward to bed, to dream and discover her soul mate. But first, to get her in the mood, she’d play with a toy; opening the window, she pushed Dennis out. “Sorry, it’s me time.” His body hit the earth with a thud and a loud squeak.
“Again?” asked Robbie
“Yeah, got a problem with that?”
Robbie jumped off the bed. “Nope, but hope whoever you conjure up has stamina and had better be good. Because the poor bastard is going to need it.”
