Readers familiar with THE PASSION OF A MARQUESS may remember the Foreign Office agent who rescued Lady Samantha and the Marquess of Plymouth from the deserted island. The guy with duel identities, Alexander Bradley—also known as Captain Jack Crawley when he’s on board the Molly—isn’t exactly on the hunt for a goddess when he’s dispatched to Mykonos on official business.
At least, not at first.
Stella’s best friend, Nike, is as intrigued by the pirate as he is of her, though.
Nike returned her attention to the ship. Not particularly large, it seemed well maintained—almost new, in fact. But what attracted her attention even more were the two men who stood at the helm staring at her. Gawking at her. With expressions that suggested they were either very surprised to see her or just very pleased.
Nike had half a mind to check to be sure she hadn’t lost part of her wardrobe. She resisted the urge, though, when it became evident they weren’t about to look away from her.
Well. Three can play at this game, she thought, returning the stare measure for measure. This is easy, she considered as she allowed a wan smile. The man on the right was certainly nothing to look at—it was apparent he had been at sea for some time given his disheveled appearance and scraggly
beard. But the man on the left …
She had to blink in order to keep staring.
The man on the left had her insides doing a few flips, a rather pleasant tingle running down her spine, her heart beating a bit faster. Although she could only see him from the chest up, she knew he wore something black over a white shirt and sported a thick mane of unruly black hair. He was tan—weren’t all the sailors who appeared in the harbor?—but he didn’t have the swarthy color of a man who spent every day on the high seas. Too far away to make out the color of his eyes, she imagined them dark blue—the color of sapphires. A shiver nearly forced her to break her stare when the man suddenly crossed his arms, his broad shoulders more emphasized by the move.
Goodness, but he is handsome, she thought with a sigh.
Finally deciding she’d had quite enough of being stared at, Nike allowed a brilliant smile.
