Sadly, the California wildfires are still burning. Today I’ll be posting excerpts about my hero firefighter, Colin Callahan. Many thanks to the men and women who save our homes, our wild lands and our lives.
Firefighter Colin Callahan is having a brush with the supernatural. Not only is a tiny light leading him to female victims trapped in burning houses, he’s having erotic dreams about an angel.
Ella Lansing is lying in a coma. She wants to wake up but her spirit is busy acting as a guardian angel. Colin is the only person Ella can touch, her only link to the mortal world and her midnight visits with the hunky firefighter are becoming increasingly more interesting.
Ella hovered above her body. Her face was pale and her hair limp and messy, but she looked peaceful. Her unresponsive body lay in the Community Hospital, but thanks to the fireman who had saved her life, Ella’s spirit was vibrant.
Not only did he see her light, he let her guide him to save others.
Ella wasn’t ready to leave the midst and be consumed by the forever light that would extinguish her earthly existence and route her to eternal peace. She wanted to return to her old world, live her life, get married, have children, grow old, but despite her efforts, her body refused to obey her brain’s commands.
Wings fully extended, Ella slid through the veil and dropped into Colin’s bedroom. Although she was a substance of light, her body took form at night. Not exactly like her physical presence in the mortal world, but similar. She had arms and legs, fingers and toes. Kind of scary, but sort of cool.
Ella had the ability to assume two forms, one, her fairy form, a tiny twinkle of light, the other a close resemblance of her real body, softly lit from the inside. If she passed through to the immortal side, the blinding light would consume her and shine forever.
No one saw her light except Colin. She was alone, suspended somewhere between her body’s existence and the pure light. Her only joy now was watching over her hero, keeping him safe.
There were worse fates than being Colin’s guardian angel. No heavenly voice or figure had given her the title or provided instructions, but slowly Ella was getting familiar with her new existence.
Ella sighed as Colin rolled over onto his back. Her broad- shouldered savior was easy on the eyes. His face was lean, his nose straight, and his mouth totally kissable. His dark brown hair was cut in a spiky style. Naked, he was splendid, and looking at his fit male body reminded Ella of the thing she missed most about the old world. More than chocolate, even.
Leaning down, Ella brushed her lips to his forehead and touched the shoulder that had supported her through the dark inferno that she’d once called home. Thanks to this man she still existed, albeit in the midst.
She pursed her lips and blew gently.
Colin stirred in his sleep and rubbed his face. His hand was big, with long fingers and short, clean nails.
Ella touched her lips to his, felt the rasp of stubble against her cheek. She gasped at the sensation. His mouth twitched, his lips moving slightly beneath hers.
Had he felt her kiss?
She folded her wings and stretched out beside him, pressing her body to his. With Colin she experienced the senses of touch, smell, sound and desire.
Trailing her fingertips over the smooth contours of his chest, she reveled in the warmth of his skin. Beneath her hand his heart pumped strong and steady, and his chest lifted and fell gently with each breath. Touching him made her feel alive. She tickled his flat belly.
Without awakening, he swatted at her hand.
She gasped, pulled her hand away. He’d reacted!
