It’s hot in California. Wildfires are burning. The smell of smoke makes me think about demons.
Today, I’ll be posting excerpts from Demon Seduction, a paranormal, erotic romance.
Let’s get hot
One soul. One night. The seduction begins.
Tavis O’Connor didn’t believe in heaven and hell until a glimpse into perdition convinces him to change his ways.
Despina is given the task of reclaiming the soul snatched from the flames. If she succeeds she’ll be promoted and attain the demon rank of Wicked.
Confident in her powers of seduction, one night is all Despina needs to bring the sexy Irishman back to the dark side.
“What’s the problem, Max?” Driving one-handed, Tavis O’Connor gripped the cell phone with the other. “I’m asking for a lousy forty grand.”
Tavis punched the accelerator and shot past a slow-moving sedan. “You know I’m good for the money.”
Lately, Tavis’ losses had outweighed his wins and he was due. He had a good tip on a long shot in the eighth race called Angel Baby. Ten grand was peanuts, but his usually generous bookie wasn’t budging. “Okay. Ten on number three in the eighth.”
Tavis disconnected and a second later his phone rang. He recognized the caller. Sullivan was a collector and Tavis owed money. He’d call him back after the results of the eighth race. When Angel Baby paid off, he’d be able to clear his debt to the Irish Mob.
Squealing tires brought Tavis’ attention back to the road. The truck crossing the centerline was coming right at him, fast. Swearing, Tavis tossed the phone aside and grabbed the wheel. Please, God, help me.
Tavis swerved, a few seconds too late. The impact exploded the front airbag. Knocked back, his head slammed into the doorframe. He fell into a dark abyss, his body turning in slow motion. He smelled the smoke long before he saw the flames. Arms flailing and legs kicking, he fell into the fire.
Fiery figures with flames for hair cavorted around him. A large man with horns on his head stepped out of the fire. His skin was dark red, his eyes were black pinpoints. “Where am I?”
“I think you know where you are.”
Fear raced on the heels of realization. Tavis shook his head. He didn’t believe in perdition. Heaven and hell and demons and angels were inventions of the priests to control the believers. So why was he standing in fire conversing with a guy holding a trident? “Okay, I’m dead. What next? Do I burn for eternity?”
“Do you feel the fire?”
Tavis looked at his arms, chest and legs. He was stark naked, but his skin wasn’t burning. Despite the fire, he wasn’t hot or sweating. “No. Why am I not burning?”
“Damn Irish. You should know the rules, Tavis O’Connor. You were probably playing with yourself during catechism.”
