I can’t let this special day on the calendar slip by unnoticed! Today the sun reached its farthest point south, paused and began the very slow journey back to the Northern hemisphere. To many of our ancient pagan ancestors, this meant the sun deity had died and been reborn and they celebrated the event in many ways. As for me I consider the Winter Solstice not the beginning but the middle of winter and also the end and beginning of the next year. So, by some old pagan calendars, Happy New Year too!
This was my first winter season with Changeling Press and my first chance to take part in their annual package of Holiday stories. For some complex personal reasons I am not a big “Christmas” person so I almost did not jump in but then I thought about the growing interest in various pagan paths such as Wicca, Asatru and other pantheistic and ancient beliefs. Why not write a story with Wiccan roots and show some of the winter holiday customs that have come forth into modern times? Gift of Love was thus born.
Here is the blurb, a buy link and the cover–all of the stories in the Yule Tied package share the same cover with just the title and author’s name changed. In a second post I will share an excerpt. A word of warning, this is a m/m romance and quite explicit! I will keep the excerpt PG-13 though since I know this site is not age-restricted.
Rob is adrift, living on the street, when he falls under the domination of Daniel, the arrogant, self-proclaimed leader of the local Wiccan coven. Daniels helps Rob obtain a job in a book store, and recruits him to serve as his assistant in rites and ceremonies, though Rob lives in fear of making mistakes.
Sean has been alone since the accidental death of his Wiccan parents, and now works as a nurse. He attends a sabbat gathering in his new home town, where he meets and is instantly drawn to Rob, seeing the gentle, truly good soul behind his shyness.
Sean sets out to woo the other man carefully and win his trust before they can begin a real relationship, but Daniel stands in the way. When Daniel’s overbearing ways finally create a rebellion in the group, Sean sees a chance to step in.
Will Sean manage to show Rob that relationships can be about caring, trust and love instead of domination and harsh control?
