This is one of my favorite stories, which just might tell you how weird I really am. But really, everyone (and everything) deserves a happily ever after so why not a troll and a polar bear?

Tundra is a polar bear shifter with a hankering for some Big Blue.
Polar bear shifters are rare these days, and most of them keep a low profile. Tundra knew the rules, but tonight she needed to get laid and it would take a strong man to satisfy her.
Alex’s buddies called him Big Blue, and they were closer to the truth than most of them knew. Trolls had a nasty reputation in this brave new world.
The very first time Tundra saw Blue, she knew she had to have him. What she didn’t realize was that she’d never want to let him go. When Alex goes to confront the head of a vicious cabal, Tundra follows to make sure he doesn’t get hurt. After all, even a troll’s hide isn’t as thick as a polar bear’s.
I stared at him in silence, trying to wrap my brain around the fact that the big, party-loving guy I’d spent last night making love to in so many creative ways that I blushed just thinking about it (and I’m not the blushing kind) planned to go out and get himself killed today. “You’re crazy. You’re going to get yourselves killed.” Not the most eloquent statement I’d ever made.
He shook his head. “We know what we’re doing, and we’re not going into this blind. If anyone can take them down, it’s us.”
Just my luck. I’d picked up a sexy, well-endowed guy with a death wish. So much for my chances of a second date. “And just exactly what makes your squad any better than the last dozen or so that the Tenth Street cabal has ripped into tiny gory shreds and spat out?”
He hesitated, the look in his eyes shrewdly assessing, as if he were deciding just how much to tell me. Finally, he shrugged those mighty fine shoulders of his. “We’re trolls. We don’t die so easy.”
That shut me up. Trolls? Okay, I’m a were-bear, polar bear to be precise. We’re pretty rare these days, especially south of the fiftieth parallel. But trolls? They’d been extinct for hundreds of years. I looked at the man sprawled in my kitchen chair. Maybe not. Blue certainly didn’t look extinct. Maybe they’d just been hiding. Not a bad idea considering their reputation. “I thought trolls were blue.” Even as the words left my mouth, I remembered the twinkle in his eyes the evening before when he’d told me his buddies called him Big Blue.
He nodded. “Big and blue. I do try to tone it down. We like to keep it under the radar these days. Don’t want to scare the people we’re trying to protect.” He took one of my hands in his, rubbing his thumb across the palm in a way that sent tingles down my spine. “I figured you weren’t one of those scream and faint kind of women, and you deserve to know the truth because after we kick ass today, I plan to come back here and celebrate. With you. Last night just whetted my appetite.” He tilted his head to stare up at me. “You okay with that?”
What could I say? Yes, and don’t worry about the troll thing because my polar bear is more than a match for a big blue guy? Really, now would be the perfect time to fess up about my own secrets. But where’s the fun in that? “Assuming you get back here in one piece. I’m not really good with the whole nursing thing. How about I come along and keep an eye on you?”
The grin was back, and my stomach did a curious little flip in reaction. He reached up and traced a finger across my lips. “Thanks, but I think you’d better stay here where you’re safe. Don’t want to have to worry about your pretty little ass while I’m working.”
He pulled me down into his lap, kissing me so thoroughly I forgot about anything but the taste of his lips, and the feel of his big hands on me. What can I say? Even knowing he was a troll, I couldn’t resist his sex appeal.
When we finally came up for air, Blue’s gaze strayed to the clock over the kitchen stove, and his mouth turned down regretfully. “Five o’clock. Time does fly when you’re having fun.” He loosened his hold on me. “I’ve got less than an hour to get my butt down to the station for the pre-strike briefing.”
I stood, grasping his hand and pulling him to his feet. Reaching up, I wrapped my arms around his neck and placed a very chaste kiss on his cheek, standing on my tiptoes to whisper in his ear. “I just want you to know that I think this is a really bad idea, and if you get yourself hurt, I’m going to be very pissed with you.”
Blue chuckled. “I’m a troll, remember? I’m tough. I promise I’ll be back tonight in one piece so you’d better get some rest, because I plan to make love to you all night long.” He brushed a kiss across my lips. “That is, if I’m invited?”
It was my turn to chuckle. “Oh yeah. You can cook! Where else would I find a troll with that kind of talent?”
“Little witch!” He gave me a quick swat on the ass, brushing his lips across my forehead. Then he left, the door clicking shut behind him.
I stared at the closed door for a long time before I decided what to do. No choice, really. I had to follow Blue and make sure those cabal bullies didn’t hurt him. I hummed softly to myself as I got ready for the adventure.
