With Atlantis Vortex being such an eventful book I’m not going to start posting from the beginning. I’ve already posted the last couple of Release Party from the beginnings and you can access those. Instead for tonight – I’d like to present excerpts that highlight some the secondary characters that help make the book and intriguing as it is. Of course Jessica Carter, the archaeologist who finds the ancient entrance to Atlantis and Lord Xerxes Kallias of Atlantis are the main characters, the book wouldn’t be as exciting without the others involved. First of all there is Jessica’s friend and associate, Bruce. He plays a strong role in the relationship between Jessica and Xerxes as you will see in reading Atlantis Vortex, here is a little taste of Bruce Lance, archaeologist and a rich friend of Jessica’s.
Best Friend, Associate and Would Be Lover — Bruce
Okeechobee barbeque is some of the finest on the east coast, and Jessica finished the spicy meal before she was half way home. Thinking about Bruce along the way, Jessica could trust him, and she’d need his help.
They’d met on a student dig and become friends working on projects together from Central America to Egypt. She decided to call him before reaching home, tonight, instead of in the morning. After six rings, Jessica was about to press the disconnect button when Bruce answered.
“Hello?” He sounded drained and depressed.
“Bruce, its Jessica…” Her voice sounded weary yet held an air of charged energy.
“Jessica, what’s wrong, what’s happened?”
“I’ve found something down here in Okeechobee you should see.”
“What’d you do, catch a trophy size big-mouth bass?”
Jessica’s laugh was tired. “No…unless that bass is a small, four sided-triangle and might be as old as the pyramids at Cheops.”
“You can’t be serious! It just isn’t possible. Tell me what really happened. You take a header over the handlebars of your bike?”
“Actually…yeah, I did.”
“You okay?”
“I’m fine, bruised a little. But, no more, not over a cell phone Bruce. Fly down to Okeechobee tomorrow, and see for yourself. I’m almost home now. I called Skip earlier in the day, just after I confirmed what I’d found. He put a guard on the levy to keep an eye on it.”
“Wait…you genuinely found something? And you only have a sheriff’s deputy for security, that’s all? You need more safeguards than that!”
“Not for now, but later we will.”
“We?” Bruce’s voice rose in anticipation.
“Well, you want in on this, don’t you?” She laughed and turned into the driveway of her home.
“Yeah! I’ll meet you at the airport outside of Okeechobee tomorrow, what time?” She heard excitement building in his voice.
“I’ll be there at seven.” Jessica sighed and disconnected the phone. Bruce wouldn’t miss a chance to take his prize airplane up or such an opportunity as she hinted.
Keep in Mind, this is only the reader’s first meeting with Bruce, his role evolves – the question is – how?
