Last excerpt from new release Blind Faith, Wolfman Tale 3, mm

Love is a leap of faith. And love conquers all. Right? If only it were that easy.

Blurb: Life among humans. Not something my two wolfmen ever expected to experience again. The women at the compound are just as surprised to find themselves sharing their sanctuary with the very wolfmen they’re trying to protect themselves from. Learning to trust each other won’t be easy but I have faith, in my wolfmen and our love. Love conquers all. Right? If only it were that easy.

Over the next few hours the women of the compound gathered at the big house. Worried voices and stilted conversations let me know I wasn’t the only anxious one. I stayed in the kitchen, trying to keep busy so I wouldn’t go mad waiting and worrying.

Voices and tempers rose as the day wore on. We had no idea how long they’d be gone. Waiting was always hard but at least this time I wasn’t alone, with no idea how much time had passed. I took what comfort I could in that.

We’d had lunch and I was helping wash up when the warning bell rang.

Bodies shoved past me in their haste to get to the door. Shouts, running feet and doors slamming ramped up my heartbeat until I thought it’d explode. I waited by the counter, out of the way until the noise moved away. Carefully, I made my way to the front door. No sounds of gunfire. Slowly, I turned the knob and pulled the door a fraction open.

Dr. Sylvia’s voice rang above the others with orders to move wounded to the clinic. I heard the deep rumbles of wolfmen, but none that sounded like my guys. Please, let them be OK! My heart pounded in my chest as I strained to hear every word, but with so many talking and all the background noise, I couldn’t get more than snatches of conversation.

“… so many hurt…”

“… died. Torn apart by those…”

Oh God. Who was torn apart? Anguish filled the speaker’s voice as it faded. The sharp edge of the rail cut into my palm I clutched it so tightly.

“… need more…”

“… so many new wolfmen…”

I desperately wanted to go down there, search for my guys. Footsteps coming closer, dragging like the walker was tired… or injured. Too light to be a wolfman.
“Who’s there?” I hated sounding so pathetic but I had to know.

“Just me. Angie.” She sounded exhausted.

“Derek and Jay… are they…” My voice broke with the fear clogging my throat.
